How many times have you run the Boston marathon?

This will be my fourth Boston Marathon and it is just as exciting as my first. This is the best race to be a part of and I am beyond excited to be a part of it again.

Why are you running for Mount Auburn this year?

I ran in 2013 when the bombings happened and instead of running away from the chaos, I ran towards it to help. That is when I knew I had to change my career and help people. I stopped working in marketing and enrolled in nursing school. I am now a nurse at Mount Auburn Hospital and excited to run again!

What keeps you going on the course?

Everyone cheering, and the signs and applaud. It is hard to not smile every step of the way. I also feel that since 2013, we as runners are responsible for keeping the memory of the victims alive.

How many times have you run the Boston marathon?

This is my first.

Why are you running for Mount Auburn this year?

Three things: I am turning 50 this year and wanted to celebrate the occasion by achieving a difficult goal; I also wanted to honor the memory of one particular friend: Karen Steele, who passed away at the age of 42 after battling a secondary cancer that developed 20+ years after she had defeated Hodgkin's Lymphoma; finally, I run in honor of my mom, who has battled through 3 breast cancer malignancies and is still going strong today! Also, my wife, Dr. Carey Thomson is Mount Auburn Hospital's Associate Chair of Medicine.

What keeps you going on the course?

The miles pass more easily when thinking about Karen, my mom, and all cancer patients; if they can overcome the mental and physical challenge of a cancer, I can cover 26.2 miles.
