When you’re concerned about your ability to get pregnant, trust the physicians at Mount Auburn Hospital to provide a sensitive, expert consultation and help you develop a treatment plan.
Do I Need a Fertility Evaluation?
You or your doctor may consider a fertility evaluation if:
- You haven’t become pregnant after one year of regular sexual intercourse without birth control (or after six months if you’re a woman over 35)
- You have irregular or painful periods
- You or your partner has a known fertility condition
Fertility Evaluation: What to Expect
When you visit your primary care provider or gynecologist for a fertility evaluation, your doctor will physically examine you and you’ll discuss your and your partner’s medical and sexual histories. Your doctor may recommend follow-up tests, such as a blood test to examine hormone levels, a semen analysis or imaging tests to look at your reproductive organs.
Then, you’ll work together to develop a plan that fits you, your condition, and your goals and beliefs. We’ll start with the least invasive options that may work for you, such as fertility drugs.
