As an individual, you have unique nutritional needs. At Mount Auburn Hospital, our dietitians provide nutrition therapy for patients, those referred for outpatient nutrition counseling, and for patients of Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home. Registered dietitians can provide you with information to help you understand and determine your individual nutrition requirements to ensure optimal health.

What is a Registered Dietitian?

Registered Dietitians have a degree from an accredited institution, completed an internship, and passed a registration exam.

In-Patient Services

Registered dietitians provide the highest quality of care for patients at Mount Auburn Hospital. Dietitians work closely with physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals to ensure patients are meeting their nutritional needs.

Out-Patient Services: The Nutrition Clinic at Mount Auburn Hospital

Do you have health concerns that can be improved with a better diet? As an outpatient, you’ll have access to referrals to Mount Auburn's Nutrition Counseling Service dietitian. Outpatient nutritional counseling is scheduled through a referral from your primary care physician, nurse practitioner, or OB/GYN or by calling 617-499-5189.

Your First Appointment

Your first visit with Mount Auburn Hospital’s outpatient dietitian will include a comprehensive nutritional assessment and is typically 1-hour long. Any follow up appointments will be 30 minutes long.

Insurance Information

Most insurances require a referral from a primary care physician to receive outpatient nutrition services. Any questions on insurance coverage can be answered when you call to make an appointment.

Dietetic Internship

Mount Auburn Hospital offers a 46-week dietetic internship that is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
